Northern Region Marked 2023 Green Ghana Day at UDS Nyankpala Campus

UDS Nyankpala Campus, renowned as the cradle of agriculture and forestry, played host to the grand Northern Regional Green Ghana Day 2023. Distinguished guests, including the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for the Forestry Commission, Iddrisu Musah, the District Chief Executive for Tolon, Mr. Fuseini Salifu Issifu Moshie, the Northern Regional Manager of Ghana Forestry Commission, Ahmed Nsia Bimpa, UDS Nyankpala Campus Principal, Professor George Nyarko, UDS Nyankpala Campus Senior Hall Tutor, Professor Adu Gyemfi, along with university senior members and students, gathered to mark this important occasion under the theme “Our Forests Our Health.” The event was centered around the allocation of a dedicated plot of land on the campus for the planting of trees. FORESTRY STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION OF GHANA (FOSAG) OF UDS COMMEMORATES THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FOREST

Speaking on the health hazards, he said, “The continuous dwindling and unsustainable utilization of forest resources principally by anthropogenic activities adversely impact human health conditions. The resultant effect of climate change on human health is crucial and catastrophic but not limited as follows: Extreme temperatures (enhance transmission of infectious skin diseases, cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM)), Dehydration, Insomnia etc. Erratic rainfall and prolong draught: (threat to food security, household income and livelihood malnutrition- immune system is compromise and vulnerable to diseases). Lack of perennial and sustain water bodies (human and animals’ competition for limited water – amoebiasis, typhoid fever, dysentery etc.)”.
